Spooning in “Cowtown”

The members of the SouthWest Spoon Collectors Club (SWSCC) will be hunting for spoons this fall in Fort Worth, Texas, sometimes known as “Cowtown”. Fort Worth – once the town “Where the West Begins” – is now a Mecca of culture and family entertainment. Fort Worth has many museums – Kimbell Art Museum, Amon Carter Museum, and the new National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, to name a few. Other attractions include: the historic Stockyards and its daily cattle drives, museum, shops, restaurants, bars and Billy Bob’s honky-tonk; Sundance Square, an historic entertainment district in downtown Fort Worth with restaurants, theaters, galleries and specialty shops; the Water Gardens; the Botanic Garden, which is the oldest garden in Texas, and its lovely Japanese Garden; the Forth Worth Zoo, one of the best zoos in the country; Bass Performance Hall; the nearby Texas Motor Speedway; and of course, several antique shops and malls.

The club members will be staying at the Holiday Inn Fort Worth North Conference Center near downtown and 18 miles from DFW International Airport. A block of rooms, including two for the physically handicapped, has been reserved at the special rate of $69 per night for single or double occupancy. Mention the SouthWest Spoon Collectors Club to get this special rate.

The meeting registration fee is $30 per person. It helps to cover the cost of the spooning/ hospitality room and dinner on Saturday night. Contact Bill Bengtson for meeting details. Phone him at 214-341-4473, or email him at farrbeng@cs.com. You can write to him at: 9748 Broken Bow Rd., Dallas, TX 75238-2508. Additional details are below.
